A group of prominent Asian intellectuals, parliamentarians, civil society leaders and activists, including TNI Fellow Walden Bello, went to Baghdad as a part of Asian Peace Mission in a desperate last-ditch effort to avert the war. Their report of meetings with students and other citizens gets under the surface of the mainstream media reports and reveals a vulnerable but enduring people on the edge of war.

Conference Asem4people - Asia Europe People's Forum IV Copenhagen, Denmark. TNI Fellow Brid Brennan speaks on The Road to ASEM4 in the Introductory Panel; Walden Bello and Susan George also participate, speaking e.g. on The WTO: Between Doha and Cancún. TNI organises several workshops and the opening panel on People's Focus on Security - Security after September 11, attended by 250 people [see below].
At the occasion of ASEM 4 in Copenhagen a group of European and Asian NGOs published the report Tackling Poverty in Asia. "Tackling Poverty in Asia" insists that poverty reduction is the proper purpose for development co-operation; not anti-immigration or security policies. TNI's Asia programme contributed to the chapters on Political Dialogue and Trade & Investment.
