It's not the economy, stupid! (Part 2)
VENUE: ISS, Kortenaerkade 12, The Hague
DATE: Thursday 19 March 2009; 16:00 - 18:00 hrs
Oxfam Novib and the Institute for Social Studies (ISS) have joined hands
in It's Not The Economy, Stupid!, a series of five debates on the
'outskirts' of the international economic crisis. The main question is:
what are we missing, in our analyses and solutions for the current
troubling situation and what are the implications for developing
countries? In the first lecture Susan George called for the formulation of
a new economic narrative, based on environmental Keynesianism. This second
lecture of the series will feature Filipino scientist and activist Walden
Bello.
Walden Bello is a senior analyst of the Bangkok-based think-thank 'Focus
on the Global South', fellow of Transnational Institute and Professor of
Sociology at the University of the Philippines. He is a leading critic of
the current model of economic globalization. Walden Bello has made major
contributions to the international case against corporate-driven
globalization, combining the roles of a human rights and peace campaigner,
academic, environmentalist and journalist.
He will discuss current responses to the global economic crisis. What
should be the role of the G20? How can we avoid further economic mayhem,
both here and in developing countries?
Oxfam Novib, ISS and co-sponsor the Transnational Institute (TNI),
cordially invite you to attend this lecture and participate in the debate.
