The resurgence of the left in Latin America has taken Social and political analysts by surprise since it was widely predicted that the end of the Cold War would lead to a prolonged period of US-friendly neoliberal hegemony in Latin America. In fact, the left has re-emerged as a serious political actor. Today, leftist or 'progressive' political forces are in government in a large majority of Latin American nations, while social movements throughout the region are challenging neoliberalism.
The New Latin American Left - Utopia Reborn is a new book that presents a comprehensive study of this fascinating and important political process.
