TNI Fellow, member of the TNI Board of Directors and a former director of TNI (1977-87), Basker is a Zimbabwean, currently working on a book about Zimbabwe under Mugabe and the development of a project on African informal economies. He was exiled in London in the early '70s, where he serves as representative of the Zimbabwean liberation movements in London and worked for a centre monitoring multinational corporations. Basker helped co-found and still serves on the Board of the Transnational Information Exchange (TIE). He also works closely with the Dutch Institute for Southern Africa (NIZA) and serves as an advisor to the Dutch Development Co-operation Ministry. Basker holds a doctorate in economics from the London School of Economics. His most recent publication is New Wars, co-edited with Mary Kaldor (Pinter/UN University, 1997).
