Radical Routes UK
A network of independent housing cooperatives providing each other with services and support, and able to raise investment centrally through a national investment scheme. Website has contact details for local cooperatives.

UNISON UK
Britain’s biggest trade union representing 1.3 million workers in the public services and essential utilities, Unison is fast becoming an indispensable actor in campaigns against further privatisation, public-private partnerships and GATS. It is a member of the global union federation, (Public Services International).

Love Music Hate Racism UK

CorpWatch Canada
Research and activist network aiming to counter corporate-led globalisation by disseminating information about the power and activities of corporations and thereby helping to build a grassroots globalisation of diverse movements for human rights and dignity, labour rights and environmental justice that enforce democratic control over corporations.

Council of Canadians
Canada’s pre-eminent citizens’ watchdog organisation, comprising over 100,000 members, lobbies MPs, conducts research, and runs national campaigns aimed at safeguarding social programs and the environment, promoting economic justice, asserting Canadian sovereignty and advancing alternatives to corporate free trade.

Public Citizen US

CODEPINK US
A feminist anti-war group that started in the lead-up to the invasion of Iraq. It seeks positive social change through creative protest, non-violent direct action, and community involvement. Its hallmark tools include street theatre and non-violent direct action.

Iraq Veterans Against the War US
An advocacy group comprised of active duty military and Iraq War veterans who are opposed to the US occupation of Iraq. The organisation advocates immediate withdrawal of all occupying forces in Iraq, reparations for the destruction and corporate pillaging of Iraq so that ordinary Iraqi people can control their own lives and future, and full benefits, adequate healthcare (including mental health), and other support for returning servicemen and women.

United for Peace and Justice
A coalition of more than 1,300 international and U.S.-based organisations opposed to the US’ policy of permanent warfare and empire-building. It mobilises around seven issue campaigns: Iraq, counter-military recruitment, global justice, nuclear disarmament, Palestine/Israel, civil liberties/immigrant rights and faith-based organising.

Centro de Assessoria e Estudos Urbanos Brazil
CIDADE is an NGO working for the empowerment of grassroots movements with research on urban reform policies and democratic local budget processes. It has worked on participatory budgeting in Porto Alegre since 1994 to empower people to participate in decision-making and develop their collective self-governing capacities.

Demosphere
An international digital democracy network, described as a digital ecosystem of web sites, blogs, and digital citizens who would like to support democracy movements around the world. The demosphere connects digital citizens to local movements through tech-savvy "bridge activists" based in different countries.

European Citizens’ Initiative Belgium
An alliance of many civil society organisations, supporters and volunteers working to give citizens the right to initiate legal changes at EU level.

Institut de Govern i Polítiques Públiques Spain

International Observatory of Participatory Democracy Spain
IOPD is a space open to cities, entities, organisations and research centres that want to learn about, exchange and implement participatory democracy at the local level.

Peoples Global Action (PGA) Canada
A global network of diverse grassroots movements across the world struggling against capitalism and destructive globalisation and for a durable borderless and directly democratic alternative. PGA helped coordinate the decentralised Global Action Days that have marked annual WTO Ministerial meetings.

World Social Forum (WSF) Brazil
A convergence point for groups and movements of global civil society opposed to neo-liberalism and instead engaged in building a planetary society centred on respect for universal human rights, the environment, democracy, social justice, equality and the sovereignty of peoples, to debate ideas, formulate proposals, share experiences and network for effective action. Since the first forum in 2001, the WSF has met annually – on several occasions in Porto Alegre, Brazil as well as other cities including Mumbai, India and Nairobi, Kenya. The process has spread with the emergence of regional social forums in Asia, Europe, Pan-Amazonia, the Americas and the US/Mexico Border. The process has also caught up at the local level, and there are currently local and national forums around the world, helping bring together groups, networks, coalitions and individuals and organize joint campaigns and days of action. Among these, it is worth highlighting the , held in Atlanta in late June 2007 US Social Forum.

Brazilian Workers Party (PT)
Formed out of the civil society struggles against the dictatorship in the early 1980s by a rainbow coalition of labour unions, urban and rural social movements, former guerrillas, Marxist intellectuals and Christians close to liberation theology, the PT demonstrates a unique adherence to both representative and participatory democracy, and has gradually risen from winning power in local and municipal goverments to now holding the federal state presidency.

Philippino Citizens Action Party – (Akbayan)
An alternative, democratic citizens’ political party of labour, peasants, youth, women, gay and lesbians, professionals, overseas Filipino workers and the urban poor that has emerged out of the desire of social movement groups to be part of the formal processes of government.

South Korean Democratic Labour Party (DLP)
Founded in 1999 as a parliamentarist wing of the Korean workers movement dedicated to fighting corruption, gangland-style politics and representing the ‘marginalised social groups’ such as workers, peasants and the poor.
