TNI Associate Fellow and Director of Acción Andina Colombia in Bogota, Ricardo Vargas Meza is a Colombian sociologist working with the TNI Drugs and Democracy Programme. Previously, he was a researcher at the Centro de Investigacion y Educacion Popular (CINEP) in Bogota, where he coordinated the Drugs and Violence project. He is a specialist on illicit coca cultivation in Colombia, currently studying the eradication pacts with coca farmers. He frequently writes for publications in Brazil, Venezuela, Chile, Switzerland and the United Kingdom, and is the author of several books, reports and articles on illicit cultivation of drug crops, alternative development and their relation with the internal conflict in Colombia. He is the editor of Revista Acción Andina. Vargas earned his Ph.D. in Social Philosophy from the Universidad Nacional in Colombia. |
