2. The challenges of creating a critical transnational media
Seminar at European Social Forum, 5 May 2006

Launch of Eurotopia No. 3 [PDF]

Transnational movements need a transnational media. Such a media is emerging, in many different, innovative ways: through the web like Indymedia; through an alternative TV channel like Tele Sud in Latin America; through modest and experimental forms of collaboration like Eurotopia. But they face many problems of resources; hostile distribution and political systems; language and differences in journalistic and political culture ...how do we overcome them? what is the political role of this critical media? how can Eurotopia become an effective resource for movements across Europe? What lessons from experiences so far?

Speakers include:

  • Tariq Ali (New Left Review, Tele Sud)
  • Panos Labrou (Epohi)
  • speakers from Indy media and Carta, Red Pepper, Iprog and other partners in Eurotopia
