Press release

“Europe-Africa: what alternatives?” (EAWA) is a civil society event organized in Lisbon in parallel of the official summit between government leaders from the European Union and the African Union.

It will be held from the 7th to the 9th of December in the Portuguese capital, where the official summit takes place as well.

EAWA will gather NGOs, social movements and civil society organizations both from Europe and Africa in workshops, strategic meetings and public conferences around four main topics: agriculture and food sovereignty, economic development, migrations and human and social rights.

- During these three days, the Economic Partnership Agreements (EPAs) and the alternatives to current trade policies between EU and Africa will be a core, cross-cutting point of the debates.

- More broadly, the purpose of the event is to build a common euro-african analysis and proposals to be shared with CSOs involved in trade campaigns around the world, particularly those addressing the Global Europe round of EU Bi-lateral trade negotiations also launched this year with Latin America, the Asian region as well as the on-going EPA negotiations.

TNI as a member of the Seattle to Brussels (S2B) network, is co-organising the EAWA event together with Africa Trade campaign organisations and Portuguese civil society organisations. Dot Keet, Susan George and Brid Brennan will participate for TNI.
