The doctrine of security and militarization has emerged as a key theme for analysis and reflection in the context of climate change. This is evident in the way G20 powerful nations have treated climate change as a security issue, investing large financial resources for war and strengthening the capacity to intervene militarily. Rich countries, instead of reducing emissions and paying climate debt, are wasting money on war. These same countries have demonstrated their intention to include climate change as a security issue within the UN security council.

During the talk we will try to answer these questions: What are the links between militarization and climate change? In what way will climate change affect peoples' sovereignty? How necessary are huge military budgets compared with the funds needed to pay the adaptation debts developing countries will need? Is the danger of militarization and military intervention a real one in a context of future climate crisis?
