Selling US wars
New book: Selling US wars
The real reasons for the war in Iraq — control of oil pricing and
policies, expansion of US power, strategic establishment of US bases in
the Middle East, defense of Israel — were kept hidden from the American
people. Instead, justifications for the illegal war were cloaked in the
high-sounding slogans of "fighting the war on terrorism," "keeping
nuclear weapons out of the hands of rogue states," and finally,
"bringing democracy to the Middle East." Selling US Wars looks at the
pretexts used to justify new wars. Edited by TNI Fellow Achin Vanaik,
it includes contributions by TNI Fellows Mariano Aguirre, Walden Bello,
Phyllis Bennis, Susan George, Martin Jelsma and David Sogge, as well as
leading experts in the field Tariq Ali, David Bewley-Taylor, Mike
Marqusee and Zia Mian.

Legal options for the Coca Leaf
Sending the wrong message
The INCB and the un-scheduling of the coca leaf
Drug Policy Briefing No. 21
International drug treaties are inconsistent in their treatment of the
coca leaf. The International Narcotics Control Board (INCB) should look
at the evidence for de-scheduling the leaf instead of admonishing
Bolivia, Peru and Argentina.

How the US is courting disaster in Iraq
Praful Bidwai
The root causes of the Iraq disaster are the US' objectives to secure
access to West Asia's energy resources, promote Israel's security and
establish its global hegemony. The global peace movement and
progressive political forces have a challenging task of persuading the
US to change this catastrophic course.

coca. La Junta Internacional de Fiscalización de Estupefacientes (JIFE)
