13 October 2008 to 15 October 2008
The Asia-Europe People's Forum (AEPF) is an inter-regional network of progressive civil society and social movements across Asia and Europe. Since 1996, AEPF has critically engaged the ASEM and has been organising the biennial gathering of people from Asia and Europe parallel to the official ASEM Summit Meetings. It has sustained its advocacy and commitment for peace and security, economic and social rights and democracy and human rights in Asia-Europe relations. Concretely AEPF has spearheaded inter-regional campaigns such as the current campaign against the EU’s Free Trade Agreement with the ASEAN as well as the development of innovative networks strengthening citizen’s participation in local governance. The Seventh Asia-Europe People's Forum (AEPF-7), with the theme "For Social and Ecological Justice!" will be held on 13-15 October 2008, at the Royal Garden Hotel in Beijing. It will bring together around 500 people from key grassroots and activist networks and NGOs, as well as resource persons, from both regions. More background
