Event title: Peoples’ Rights not Corporate Profits: Closing of the International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID) and challenging free trade agreements on the road to build a just economic and social governance.
President Evo Morales of Bolivia and President Correa of Ecuador will be speaking and participating in a dialogue with civil society organizations at a unique “side event” in the United Nations on June 25.
The event has been organized by* *Our World is not for Sale (OWINFS), Hemispheric Social Alliance, Friends of the Earth International, Jubilee South, Social Watch, Linking Alternatives and Transnational Institute in cooperation with the Permanent Mission of Ecuador to the United Nations and the Permanent Mission of the Plurinational State of Bolivia to the United Nations.
The event will focus on the role of trade liberalization in causing the financial crisis, the continued imbalance between countries’ sovereignty and corporate investors’ rights, and the need to construct new just financial architecture that support human rights.
