    Our great friend and colleague Thura Myint Lwin passed away on Sunday 10 February. Thura was the co-author of TNI’s recent Drug Policy Briefing ‘Methamphetamine use in Myanmar, Thailand and Southern China: assessing practices, reducing harms’. Although he was not able to participate in the report launch, he saw the final copy and was proud of it. We dedicate this report to him.

    En 2012, la ciudadanía de Highland Park, en Michigan, se reunió para fundar Soulardarity y promover la democracia energética y un desarrollo equitativo. Desde que se creó, Soulardarity ha instalado siete farolas solares y desplegado tecnología solar por un importe de más de 30 000 dólares en Highland Park y las comunidades circundantes. El grupo ha organizado también la promoción, a nivel municipal y estatal, de la regulación, legislación y el fomento del liderazgo político local que apoye la propiedad comunitaria, la transparencia y la responsabilidad ambiental.

    Soulardarity defiende también la gestión energética de la propiedad comunitaria (COPA, por sus siglas en inglés), en el marco del llamamiento a favor de un Nuevo Pacto Verde que aborde el cambio climático, la desigualdad económica y la injusticia racial.

    The construction of an Aung San statue has caused deep controversy in Kayah State during the past year. Dee De is a member of the Karenni State Farmers Union and Union of Karenni State Youth. He was arrested on 21 June, Karenni National Day, for his involvement in protests.     Against the backdrop of an agrarian landscape that has become more homogenous, sterile and empty over the past 50 years, a new movement of Dutch farmers and citizens is emerging. They want to support a type of agriculture that does not damage the environment, enriches the life of farmers and citizens, and produces healthy food. This desire is expressed through a vast array of initiatives.
