Part of the TNI Archives (and also the papers of the TNI Washington) are kept at the IISG (International Institute of Social History) in Amsterdam and can be viewed after appointment only. Research for this section on TNI History was done by Erik Heijmans and and Mariël Otten.
TNI has published over 400 books and thousands of publications since its beginnings in 1974. In honour of our 40th anniversary we have listed some of the ones that made a big impact and in many cases have stood the test of time.
Out of the Women's projects of TNI emerges an autonomous feminist-socialist action group, DOMITILA, International Solidarity between Women, which aims to raise consciousness of women in the Netherlands concerning the struggle of women for independence and self-determination.
Deeply involved in the preparation of the 1975 military coup in Chile, the so-called Chicago Boys convinced the Junta generals that they were prepared to supplement the brutality, which the military possessed, with the intellectual assets it lacked. Here Orlando Letelier, TNI's second director, reflects on the impact their economic ideology had on Chile and by default shares pertinent observations on the legacy that persists today.
