The sixth meeting of the Informal Drug Policy Dialogue series took place in Kolymbari-Chania, Crete, on 22 and 23 May, 2009. This meeting was held at the same venue where the dialogue series began in 2004.
The fifth informal drug policy dialogue took place in Berlin in cooperation with the German Federal Health ministry. The principal focus of the meeting was the UNGASS review process, the Political Declaration to be adopted at the next CND meeting in March 2009 and future goals in international drug policy.
The seventh meeting of the Informal Drug Policy Dialogue (IDPD) series, a joint initiative of the Andreas Papandreou Foundation and the Transnational Institute, took place from 10-12 December in Amsterdam, The Netherlands.
The meeting is hosted by the Orthodox Academy in Kolymbari (Crete). The thirty participants include ministerial officials from several countries, representatives from UN and European institutions, and non-governmental drug policy experts.
The second Informal Drug Policy Dialogue was co-hosted by the Department for Drug Strategic Affairs of the Hungarian Ministry of Youth, Family, Social Affairs and Equal Opportunities. The two-day dialogue was focused on three themes: (1) harm reduction developments at the regional and UN level; (2) alternative development: dilemmas around coca and opium reduction efforts; and (3) preparations for the 2008 UNGASS review.
The first meeting of the Informal Dialogue on Drugs Policy in Latin America took place in Montevideo, Uruguay. Sessions centred around: Consumption of base paste and crack in the South of Latin America; Overview of the UNGASS review and evaluation process for the period 2008/2009; The prison problem in the region associated with drug related crimes.
The third meeting of the Informal Dialogue on Drug Policy in Latin America focused on the evaluation of the UN General Assembly Special Session (UNGASS) on Drugs in 2008 and 2009, and the high level meeting of the Commission on Narcotics Drugs (CND) in March 2009.
The fourth meeting in the series of Informal Drug Policy Dialogues in Latin America was held in Cochabamba. Three sessions covered the following topics: Progress and Challenges in the UNGASS Review Reflection Period; Coca Leaf and Integrated and Sustainable Development; No Escape? The Prison Problem and Drug Policy in Latin America.
The sixth meeting was held near Buenos Aires. Debates centered on three key areas: Reforms in policies regarding the prevention and treatment of problematic use of substances; Decriminalization of possession; and Legal reforms in the international arena: the case of the coca leaf.
The eighth Informal Dialogue on Drug Policies in Latin America was held in Lima, focusing on the following topics: Drug policy in Peru and its challenges; alternative development theory and practice; harm reduction policies for the drug market; the future of reforms: decriminalization of possession and cultivation for personal consumption; the legal market for coca leaves; and, options and debate in international bodies.
The fifth meeting of the Informal Drug Policy Dialogues in Latin America focused on the UNGASS review process and the Political Declaration to be adopted at the high-level segment of the 52nd session of the Commission on Narcotic Drugs in Vienna on March 11-12, 2009.
The tenth meeting of the Informal Drug Policy Dialogue series, organised by the Transnational Institute (TNI) and Association Diogenis, took place in Warsaw, Poland, gathering over 35 NGO representatives, academics, policy makers and practitioners.
The seventh meeting of the Informal Drug Policy Dialogues in Latin America took place in Montevideo. And centered on the following issues: Micro-trafficking and proportionality of sentences; Challenges to reforming drug policies; Marijuana in Latin America; and Options and debates in international and regional organizations.
The eleventh Informal Drug Policy Dialogue took place in Athens. Topics amongst others were the national drug policy and drug situation in Greece, current affairs in Vienna, global cannabis policy developments and the upcoming UN General Assembly Special Session on Drugs in 2016.
The Expert Dialogue took place in the Miramar Palace in San Sebastian and was hosted by the municipal authorities of the city. Dialogue focused on examining some regulation models currently being implemented.
