    Anthony Barnett was one of the early Fellows of TNI, from 1978 to 1983, working on Vietnam and Cambodia. He left TNI after he wrote Iron Britannia about the Malvinas/Falklands conflict and focussed on UK politics and journalism, writing for the New Statesman and the Guardian.   3. The Praful Bidwai Memorial Award 2018

    The Praful Bidwai Memorial Award is intended to honour and highlight courageous and independent voices in journalism. The 2018 Award was conferred on Ulka Mahajan, one of the three founders of Sarvahara Jan Andolan. Praful Bidwai, regarded by many as one of the best investigative journalists South Asia has produced, died tragically in Amsterdam on 23 June 2015. His friends created this award to honour his legacy. Praful was a TNI Fellow and a regular visitor to the institute for 25 years.   4. Building post-capitalist futures

    Over several sunny days in June 2018, a diverse group of 60 activists and researchers from 30 countries convened for a multi-day meeting to discuss the collective building of post-capitalist futures. The meeting provided the opportunity for a rich exchange of perspectives and experiences, as well as deep discussion and debate. The goal of the meeting was not to achieve consensus both an impossible and unnecessary endeavour but rather to stimulate mutual learning, challenge one another and advance analyses.

    The brilliant, courageous and accomplished Indian journalist, scholar and activist Praful Bidwai died unexpectedly in Amsterdam on June 23rd – a tragic loss for all those he inspired and informed.

His friends, including the Transnational Institute, created this award to honour his legacy.
