Susan George, president of the Transnational Institute on Trump and the European reaction to his presidency, one year after his election. The video was recorded at the National Press Club in Washington DC, organised by Rosa Luxemburg Stiftung—New York Office and the Institute for Policy Studies.
Susan George joined an expert panel on the first day of a meeting of a working group of the UN Human Rights Council, tasked with developing a treaty on transnational corporations and human rights. She spoke with the Global Campaign to Dismantle Corporate Power about the history of UN action on transnational corporations, the potential pitfalls of the current treaty negotiations, and the range of tax abuses, wage evasion, and investor protection weapons that transnational corporations can use.
TNI is appalled at revelations that the Argentine intelligence services prepared illicit files on our institute and our researchers, mainly Luciana Ghiotto, at the time of the WTO and G20 meetings in Buenos Aires in 2018. TNI has been an observer to UN institutions since 1974 and to the WTO since 2001.
Community members banded together in a show of solidarity, committing to collective ownership and equity, transparency, and direct participation in the development and management of their energy infrastructure. This impressive collective commitment has transformed a once-rural village of just over 3,000 residents in the 1980s into a thriving urban metropolis of more than 40,000 residents today.
TNI is known for its rigorous standards of research and high levels of expertise and its commitment to produce analysis that can assist our mission of achieving social and environmental justice. Our briefings and reports are appreciated by activists and policy-makers alike for their systemic analysis, visionary alternatives and pragmatic proposals.
TNI turns 40 in 2014 and has received many birthday wishes from social movements, academics, activists, grassroots community groups, journalists, writers and policy makers. We are proud to have worked alongside them in a struggle for a more just world and deeply touched by their praise for our work.
