  • The Washington Office on Latin America (WOLA)
Despite the expenditure of more than $20 billion over the past decade on interdiction programs and efforts to disrupt drug production in so-called "source countries" of the Andes, more illicit drugs are available in the United States, and at cheaper prices, than ever before. While there is little reason to believe that current policy will produce results in terms of drug control, its impact is devastating in countries where the battles are carried out.
