Almost two years on from Trump's electoral defeat, it is clear that the resurgence of the far-right in North America is far from over. Militarized white nationalist, xenophobic and misogynist forces have capitalized on the pandemic and the deepening economic crisis to mobilize new support. Three leading anti-fascist thinkers and activists share their analysis on the nature of the threat, the ways the far-right have used race, migration, and transphobia to organize, and what strategies the left needs to tackle this new hydra.

  • Todd Gordon is an Associate Professor at Wilfrid Laurier University and is an editor of Midnight Sun (https://www.midnightsunmag.ca/), where his article on the Freedom Convoy, "Fascism is as Canadian as the Maple Leaf", appeared. He is the co-author, with Jeffery Webber, of Blood of Extraction: Canadian Imperialism in Latin America.
     
  • Jeanelle K. Hope is the Director and Associate Professor of African American Studies at Prairie View A&M University. She is a native of Oakland, California, and scholar of Black political thought, culture, and radical social movements. Her forthcoming co-authored book, The Black Antifascist Tradition, is under contract with Haymarket books. See her piece in Essence magazine on how Black people have been at the vanguard of anti-fascist movements in the US.
     
  • Natasha Lennard is a columnist for The Intercept.  She teaches critical journalism at the New School for Social Research in New York. She is the author of Being Numerous: Essays on Non-Fascist Life and wrote this analysis of the intersection of white womanhood and fascism represented in Giorgia Meloni in Italy.
