Economy and Power Understanding economic crisis, political change and shifting forms of power

The world is undergoing profound political and economic transformation. Decades of austerity, financialisation and inequality have deepened social fragmentation while undermining democratic institutions and public trust. At the same time, authoritarian politics, geopolitical tensions and competing economic agendas are reshaping global power relations.

TNI’s Economy and Power work examines how economic systems, financial structures and political forces interact to shape societies and everyday life. We investigate the changing dynamics of state power, debt, finance and political realignment, while supporting debates and movements advancing democratic, just and redistributive alternatives.

Working alongside researchers, social movements and international partners, we connect critical political economy analysis with struggles for democracy, public accountability and social justice.
