Course “Weaving insurgent pedagogies”
From the International Peoples' Assembly , the Tricontinental Institute for Social Research , the Transnational Institute (TNI) and CLACSO , we invite you to participate in the course Weaving insurgent pedagogies: geopolitics, class struggle and strategies of emancipation in the Global South , which will take place between September and December 2026.
Our proposal stems from an observation already noted in the 1990 report of the Southern Commission: despite shared challenges, “the South does not know the South.” Three decades later, this fragmentation persists, while capitalism reorganizes, imperialism reconfigures itself, and right-wing forces advance on our gains.
Drawing on the concrete experiences of popular struggles in Asia, Africa, and Latin America and the Caribbean, this course seeks to help bridge the gap that geographical distance, linguistic diversity, and imperialism create for the unity of the Global South. The process is conceived as a space for political education aimed at strengthening the organizational efforts of progressive movements and organizations, fostering dialogue between theories, experiences, strategies, and lessons learned from the three continents.
Participants will deepen their understanding of key issues in the Global South, identify resources, actors, challenges, and opportunities, and exchange ideas based on the concrete realities of their struggles. By offering a space for open and respectful dialogue among the diverse perspectives of the Global South's left, the course aims to contribute to the development of a shared strategic vision and a common voice, built from the frameworks and realities of the Global South.
How is the course organized?
The course will combine analysis and practice in each session, integrating theoretical interventions with the presentation of concrete political-organizational experiences from the three continents.
To foster dialogue between the different regions, taking into account our linguistic and time zone diversity, each class will feature a speaker from each region. Their presentations will be based on the systematized responses to a series of thought-provoking questions that each participating organization will be invited to share beforehand.
Responses may be submitted in Arabic, French, Spanish, English, or Portuguese. The systematizations will be shared in these same languages with the participating organizations and speakers.
Participation in the course implies a commitment to attend at least 80% of the classes, a requirement for obtaining the certificate of participation issued by CLACSO. At the same time, we invite each organization to contribute to building a regional perspective from its own context and experience of struggle, through its responses to the guiding questions that will serve as a starting point for the presentations.
The systematized responses will be shared with the speakers and other participating organizations, without attributing authorship to any particular organization. This will allow each perspective to be expressed freely and without concern for form: it can be a brief and objective response or a more extensive elaboration, in writing or even via voice message. The most important thing is to count on you to build this regional voice in all its complexity and diversity.
The classes will be closed and held via Zoom, always on Saturdays, from 2:00 to 4:00 PM CAT. The speakers' presentations, excluding the discussions, will be recorded and made available on the CLACSO website. The complete recordings, including the discussions, will be available exclusively to participating organizations that were unable to attend live.
The course is aimed exclusively at organizations from the Global South or internationalist organizations with relevant work in the Global South: social movements, political parties, trade unions, collectives, civil society organizations, networks of intellectuals and activists from Africa, Asia and Latin America.
