Ecuador ha estado lidiando con una profunda crisis marcada por una mayor inseguridad, exacerbada por la implementación de políticas neoliberales y un empobrecimiento generalizado en los últimos años. La amenaza inminente de un estado de conflicto casi permanente, al menos hasta las próximas elecciones, junto con una preocupante tendencia hacia un autoritarismo progresivo, aunque aún no está institucionalizado, arroja una sombra sobre la situación actual.

Ecuador has been grappling with a profound crisis marked by heightened insecurity, exacerbated by the implementation of neoliberal policies and widespread impoverishment over the past few years. The looming threat of a quasi-permanent state of conflict, at least until the upcoming elections, coupled with a concerning trend towards creeping authoritarianism, while not yet institutionalized, casts a shadow over the current state of affairs.

The crisis triggered by COVID-19 is challenging the very meaning of coexistence and cohabitation and redesigning the boundaries of public space in an absolutely unprecedented way, with unpredictable results.
