During the “Trade Unions Support the Call for Global Energy Embargo for Palestine” event at the Inter-Regional @TUED_Global South Meeting in Mexico City (Feb 4–6, 2025), Hamza Hamouchene delivered a powerful and urgent speech linking the Palestinian struggle to global climate justice and the imperialist fossil-fueled order. He described Gaza as a concentrated expression of capitalist imperialism, where genocide, ecocide, and militarised fossil capitalism collide. Hamouchene warned that the ongoing destruction in Palestine reflects a broader global trend of violence, militarism, and environmental collapse driven by the ruling classes.
Hamouchene called on trade unions, especially in the energy sector, to go beyond statements and take concrete action by supporting a Global Energy Embargo for Palestine. Citing Colombia’s decision to halt coal exports to Israel, he urged other countries like Brazil, South Africa, Nigeria, and Gabon to stop supplying the fossil fuels that power Israel’s military machine. For him, the struggles for climate justice, energy democracy, and Palestinian liberation are inseparable—and must be fought together.
