About the Contributors

Muzan Alneel was a Transnational Institute research fellow with a focus on industrial policy, development and governance in Sudan and the Global South. She was the managing director and a founding member of ISTinaD Center – Sudan, a research centre that works in the field of innovation, science and technology for people-centred development.

Asmaa Ashraf works in community energy and researches and writes about political ecology. Based in London, she is active as an organiser within both the Palestine and climate movements.

Abi Bae is a Korean researcher and activist currently working at the Transnational Institute.

Kribsoo Diallo is a Cairo-based pan-Africanist researcher and political analyst specialising in African affairs.

Nihal El Aasar is an independent Egyptian writer, researcher, political analyst and radio host. She has written about politics, political economy, culture, literature and music in several publications, including Verso, Jacobin, Parapraxis, The Baffler, Art Review, The Wire, Protean, Novara Media, Africa is a Country, GQ, Mundial and others.

Katsi'tsakwas Ellen Gabriel is a Kanien'kehá:ka (Mohawk) artist, filmmaker and activist. She was a community spokesperson for the Kanehsatà:ke community during the 1990 siege on Kanehsatà:ke and Kahnawà:ke. She campaigns for Indigenous rights and has participated in several meetings of the United Nations Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues (UNPFII). She has also been a board member of the Mohawk Language Custodian Association, a member of Indigenous Climate Action's steering committee, and President of Quebec Native Women Inc.

Hamza Hamouchene is an Algerian researcher and activist. He is currently the Arab Region Programme Coordinator at the Transnational Institute (TNI). He is the author/editor of four books: Dismantling Green Colonialism: Energy and Climate Justice in the Arab Region (2023), The Arab Uprisings: A Decade of Struggles (2022), The Struggle for Energy Democracy in the Maghreb (2017), and The Coming Revolution in North Africa: The Struggle for Climate Justice (2015).

Adam Hanieh is Director of the Middle East Institute and Professor of Political Economy and Global Development at SOAS, University of London. He specialises in the political economy of energy, oil and capitalism in the Middle East and is author of Crude Capitalism: Oil, Corporate Power and the Making of the World Market (Verso, 2024) and co-author of Resisting Erasure: Capital, Imperialism and Race in Palestine (Verso, 2025).

María Landi is a journalist, translator, and human rights and feminist activist. She is involved in solidarity activism and boycott, divestment and sanctions (BDS) campaigning for Palestine, and has volunteered in the West Bank for several periods. She writes and publishes on Palestine in various independent media in Latin America and the Spanish state.

Vijay Kolinjivadi is a professor who specialises in teaching community economic development. He writes about and researches political ecology and ecological economics. He is based in Tio'tià:ke (Montreal).

Arun Kundnani is the editorial director of Monthly Review Press, and the author of various books, most recently What is Antiracism? And Why it Means Anticapitalism (Verso, 2023). His biography of Jamil Al-Amin will be published by Doubleday in 2027.

Karma Nabulsi is Senior Research Fellow at St Edmund Hall, and professor emerita at the University of Oxford. She has written and edited a number of works, including Palestinians Register: Laying Foundations and Setting Directions, and directed and co-authored The Palestinian Revolution, a bilingual Arabic-English digital teaching and research resource exploring Palestinian revolutionary thought and practice in the 1950s, 60s and 70s (https://bit.ly/4dYJsFi). She is the recipient of several awards and honours, most recently the BRISMES Service Award in 2024.

Wael Omar is currently pursuing a PhD in political theory at SOAS University of London. His research interests include anticolonial thought, settler colonialism, social movements, and histories and contemporary forms of internationalism.

Zhang Sheng is a non-resident visiting scholar at Koç University Center for Asian Studies in Istanbul, Türkiye. His areas of research include the evolution and vicissitude of China-Middle East relations, the history of China's solidarity-building campaigns with anti-colonial liberation movements in the developing world, and Chinese diplomacy from the establishment of the People's Republic of China until today.

Andressa Oliveira Soares is a human rights lawyer and activist with a PhD in International Law from the University of São Paulo. She is the BDS National Committee Coordinator for Latin America and the Caribbean.

Achin Vanaik is a TNI Fellow and Associate. He was formerly Professor of International Relations and Head of the Department of Political Science at the University of Delhi. He is a lifelong activist for nuclear disarmament and is an active member of the Coalition for Nuclear Disarmament and Peace (India) and of the Indian Campaign for the Academic and Cultural Boycott of Israel. He is also a founder of the Centre for Marxist Studies (CMS).

Rafeef Ziadah is a Palestinian academic, poet and activist. Her research focuses broadly on political economy, gender and race. She is co-author of Resisting Erasure: Capitalism, Imperialism and Race in Palestine (Verso Press, 2025) and co-editor of Revolutionary Feminisms (Verso Press, 2020).
