Muzan Alneel (1986 - 2026) Research Fellow
Muzan Alneel was an engineer, researcher, and public speaker with an interdisciplinary professional and academic background spanning engineering, socioeconomics, and public policy. She was the managing director and a founding member of ISTinaD Center – Sudan, a research centre dedicated to innovation, science, and technology for people-centred development.

Muzan brought over a decade of engineering experience in the private sector, where she managed projects across FMCG, start-ups, and technical consultancy. Following the December 2018 revolution in Sudan, she became deeply engaged in public service, working as a technical consultant with several Sudanese grassroots organizations and initiatives. Her work focused on equipping the public with the technical knowledge necessary for meaningful participation in decision-making around public resources and national priorities.
During Sudan’s transitional period, Muzan also volunteered as a consultant on Industrial Policy at the Industrial Research and Consultancy Center (IRCC), a para-governmental institution. In this role, she contributed to the founding of the Institute of Industrial Policy Studies.
Her publications include “People-centered evaluation of industrial policy in post revolution Sudan” (2022), presented at the 10th International Conference for Appropriate Technology and selected among the conference’s best papers; “The Everyday Politics of Sudan's Tax System: Identifying Prospects for Reform” (PeaceRep Report, 2022), which she co-authored; and “Why ‘it hasn’t fallen yet’?: Lessons from the Sudanese revolution”, a chapter in The Arab Uprising: A Decade of Struggle published by TNI.
Muzan’s research and writing addressed industrial and economic policy, sustainable development, and the political dynamics of Sudan. She was widely recognized as a thoughtful and impactful voice, and appeared as a guest speaker on numerous local, regional, and international platforms.
She held a Master of Engineering in Technical Management and a Bachelor of Engineering in Mechanical Engineering.
