WHO and the Cocaine Project Issue #6: The WHO Study on Coca and Cocaine the World Never Got to See
Topics
This edition of Coca Chronicles tells (in Spanish) the story of the WHO Cocaine Project, undertaken by the very same World Health Organization that has just completed a critical review of the coca leaf—whose conclusions could lead to changes in its classification within the UN drug control system.
Pien Metaal and Mario Argandoña recount the global study on cocaine use in all its forms, including coca leaf, funded by the WHO and UNICRI and carried out in the early 1990s, but unfortunately never published. Mario Argandoña, who was part of the coordination team in Geneva, shares his personal experience of this highly controversial study.
This podcast was produced by Kitula Hurtado, with music by Juan Francisco Taborga, and voice contributions from Miguel Lamas and Maria Lohman. The interview with Mario Argandoña was conducted by Kathia Butron.
