World Forum of Fisher Peoples

The World Forum of Fisher Peoples (WFFP) is a mass-based social movement of small-scale fisher people from across the world.

WFFP's General Secretary Naseegh Jaffer tells about the organization and its mission. The movement consists of over forty small scale fishing organizations, operating in more than forty different countries. WFFP's mission is to create solidarity amongst small scale fishers--in different social-, cultural-, and economic contexts--and more important to establish a global framework to promote equity and justice for small scale fishing communities. So that fishing is not overpowered by the industrial and commercial fishing companies. In this way the WFFT advocates the rights of small scale fishing communities and acts against commercial overfishing.

Arafat Jaradat from the Palestinian West Bank explains why the Palestinian fishermen organization seeks the solidarity of other small scale fishing communities through the WFFT.
