The forces of global capitalism, transnational corporations, and their proxies have brought the world to a breaking point. As far-right politics and nationalism gain influence, and international cooperation weakens, there is an urgent need to find a new way forward.
The immediate focus? The upcoming UN Summit of the Future, which will set the terms for how the United Nations will operate in the coming decades. The UN Secretary General’s proposal, called the “Pact for the Future,” is pushing to bring corporations and powerful interest groups more deeply into the functioning of the United Nations, in the role of “stakeholders”. But after decades of big business influencing global decisions, it's clear this approach will only make things worse.
In response, grassroots movements are organizing and coalescing. In the days before the official summit, they will hold their own events in New York, where they willgather activists, civil society groups, and others to propose a new vision for international cooperation. They will advance a vision of a world that focuses on the needs of people and the environment, not one controlled by corporations.
Over three days (19-21 September), participants will examine the UN’s "Pact for the Future," discuss what’s missing, and propose better solutions. They’ll also strengthen ongoing talks with countries in the Global South, pushing for international cooperation that is more fair, democratic, and accountable.
This gathering is not just about critiquing the current system — it’s about taking action. These movements aim to stop the growing influence of big corporations in global decision-making and work toward a new vision for the United Nations — one that truly addresses the challenges of the 21st century. We invite you to join this important event and help build a better future for all.
