TNI produces a report, two workshops and a parliamentary delegation to the Philippines to encourage a shift in European policy to support Philippine democracy.

	23 January		IKV and TNI organise a debate in 'De Balie': 'The other answer to Reagan's Star Wars', with Dan Smith (CND), Mient Jan Faber (IKV) and Laurens Hogebrink (IKV).
	January		Four European parliamentarians visit the Philippines, in the frame of the TNI Philippine programme. This programme focuses on stimulating a new course for European policy to support Philippine democracy.
	1 March		Jan Joost Teunissen is appointed as coordinator of FONDAD (Forum on Debt and Development). This is an international programme of ICCO and NOVIB on the debt issue and is in a way a continuation of TNI's debt programme. Jan Joost Teunissen continues being a fellow of TNI.
	March		A workshop held at TNI, finalising the European policy document on the Philippines, followed by its publication and promotion among European governments, parliaments, politicians, political parties, ngo's and solidarity groups.
	23 March		Edgar Chamorro visits TNI, 'The Contras and Europe'
	May		Fellows meeting at TNI. For the first time the meeting was attended by the IPS Board of Trustees, which also held their formal meeting in Amsterdam. Debate at the Balie on 'The grip of conservatism in the USA and Europe', between Bob Borosage, Luciana Castellina and Stuart Hall.
	31 October- 2 November		TNI workshop on the Philippines.
