Pharmaceutical companies used the pandemic to further their influence on global governance structures. How did this happen and what, if any, are the alternatives?

Friends of the Earth International and the Transnational Institute organised this webinar which focuses on our new joint report: “The Three COVID crises and Multistakeholderism : Impacts on the Global South”, by Harris Gleckman.

In this research, the author explores the role of multistakeholderism in the COVID crises, when multistakeholder initiatives, working outside the multilateral system, acted as governing bodies. A follow-up to COVAX, published in March 2021, this report situates COVID-related multistakeholder undertakings within the overall strategy of the Global North towards the Global South.

In this webinar our panellists Dr. Lauren Paremoer (Cape Town University / People’´s Health Movement) and Priti Patnaik (Geneva Health Files) discussed the report findings with the author.

Panellists:

  • Dr. Lauren Paremoer (Cape Town University / People’´s Health Movement)
  • Priti Patnaik (Geneva Health Files)
  • Dr. Harris Gleckman (Senior fellow at the Center for Governance and Sustainability at the University of Massachusetts Boston and Director of Benchmark Environmental Consulting)
