Joel Rocamora has been working for several decades on issues of democracy, governance, and social movements within the Philippines. He is a former Co-Director of TNI.

Joel coordinated TNI's early work on the Philippines while he was in political exile during the Marcos regime. Rocamora returned to the Philippines in 1992 where he worked as a political analyst at the Ateneo Centre for Social Policy and Public Affairs and as a consultant to several development NGOs.

Joel is a member of Pres. Aquino's cabinet as Secretary/Lead Convenor of the National Anti-Poverty Commission. He was Executive Director the Institute for Popular Democracy prior to joining government.
