Anthony Barnett is an organizer and writer. He is a co-founder of openDemocracy and was its first editor from 2001 to 2007 and continues to write regularly for it as well as Byline Times.

He was one of the early Fellows of TNI, working on Vietnam and Cambodia from 1978 to 1983 (when he published Aftermath with John Pilger). His short documentary U.S. Progressives on a Knife Edge was made in 2022. He was the first director of Charter 88 from 1988 to 1995. It called for Britain to embrace a European style codified constitution. His recent books are The Lure of Greatness: England’s Brexit and America’s Trump (2017) and Taking Control! Humanity and America after Trump and the Pandemic(2022). He is a founding supporter of Europe for Scotland.
